Port Health Organisation (PHO), Cochin
PHO Cochin serves Cochin Port, one of India's strategically located all-weather natural seaports and a WHO-recognised International Sanitary Port authorised to issue Ship Sanitation Certificates. Located on Willingdon Island, Ernakulam, its jurisdiction covers all notified ports in Kerala and Karnataka, with a satellite office at Vizhinjam International Seaport. It also has administrative jurisdiction over PHO and APHO Mangalore.
The organisation has achieved significant digital transformation by implementing the National Logistics Portal (NLP) Marine for vessel health clearance, digitising Yellow Fever Vaccination records since 2000, and adopting Bharatkosh for digital payments. Its vaccination centre is the oldest and largest in Kerala. PHO Cochin has further strengthened public health through vector surveillance, laboratory capacity, stakeholder training, and continuous improvements in infrastructure, employee welfare, and service delivery, making it a model Port Health Organisation in India.
