IHR POE

The Point of Entries (POEs) in India are obligated to meet requirements under the World Health Organization International Health Regulation 2005, to prevent the spread of vectors/reservoirs and vector borne diseases from one country to another. One of the areas stressed in the IHR-2005 is capacity building for vector surveillance and control at PoE and up to a minimum distance of 400 meters from those areas of POE facilities that are used for operations involving travelers, conveyances, containers, cargo, and postal parcels, with extension of the minimum distance if vectors with a greater range are present.

Yellow Fever

Passengers travelling to and from YF endemic countries (countries where Yellow Fever disease is persisting) are required to be in possession of a “VALID YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION CERTIFICATE” issued by authorized and designated vaccination centers in India.

Health Clearance of Human Remains (Dead Body)

In cases of deaths due to communicable diseases not reported in India and having public health risk, such as viral hemorrhagic fevers (Lassa, Marburg, Ebola, Congo Crimean), Avian influenza and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome - CoV or others not yet isolated or named, the airport health officer may restrict the importation of human remains.
While such restrictions are not generally employed, the health officer reserves the right to do so on a case to case basis, with the approval of the Central Government.
